THE PORTERVILLE RECORDER

A 55-year-old Porterville man died Tuesday night in a car accident, after making what authorities said was unsafe turn on Highway 65.

David Flusser  was driving a 2002 Chrysler Town and Country van when he collided head-on with a 2005 Kenworth truck being driven by a Utah man. The accident occurred at 11:05 p.m. just north of Merced Avenue in Kern County.

Flusser was headed northbound, travelling at an unknown speed, when he made the “unsafe turn” and entered the southbound traffic lane, striking Valcyro Yamashita. The force of the impact caused Yamashita’s tractor to overturn, blocking traffic for five hours, according to California Highway Patrol.

Flusser was pronounced dead at the scene. Yamashita was not injured.
