Teenager killed in single-car accident

A single-car auto accident at St. John and Buena Vista streets on Friday has taken the life of a 17-year-old driver.

Visalia police said Joshua Perkins was injured in the accident at 11:55 p.m. and was treated at Kaweah Delta District Hospital and then to University Medical Center.

Officers said Wednesday that Perkins died at the Fresno hospital from severe head trauma which resulted from the accident.

Perkins was using a seat belt and alcohol did not appear to be a factor in the crash, officers said.

A passenger in the vehicle suffered a small cut to the forehead which did not require medical attention. Witnesses and evidence at the scene indicated the primary cause in the accident was speed, but investigation is continuing, officers said.
