WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
PC SPLITS
Porterville College split its first two games at the Mike Gervasoni Memorial Classic at DeAnza Community College. After losing to Ohlone, one of Northern California’s top teams, 86-40 on Thursday, PC came back to beat Skyline 66-63 on Friday.

Against Skyline, Porterville jumped out to a 13-6 lead, but eventually fell behind 41-26 at halftime. But PC made an adjustment on defense in the second, using a triangle-and-two with Katrina Goulbourne inside and Maribel Bravo up top. PC coach Dave Kavern also praised the defensive play of Jackie Padron, Alia Alvarez and Eva Gutierrez in the second half.

PC eventually took the lead with about 2 1/2 minutes left and led by as much as six before Skyline hit a three at the buzzer for the final margin.  For PC, Eva Gutierrez scored 19 points, Goulbourne had a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds, Destiny Zarate had 13 points, Bravo had 11 points, Jeidi Gutierrez had six points and Alvarez added four assists.

Another key was PC was able to cut its turnovers as after it had 27 turnovers against Ohlone, it had just 10 turnovers against Skyline.

Against Ohlone, Evan Gutierrez scored 16 points, Padron and Goulbourne each had six points, Bravo had five rebounds and Zarate added two assists. PC will play for the consolation title at 11 a.m. today against Merced.
