PC baseball starts season 2-1

After a rough beginning, it was actually a strong overall start to the season for the Porterville College baseball team at the Bakersfield Crossover Tournament this past weekend.

After a 10-1 loss to host Bakersfield College on Friday, PC came back strong with a 5-3 win over L.A. Pierce on Saturday and a 4-3 win over Allan Hancock on Sunday.

PC trailed 3-2 against L.A. Pierce, but scored one run in the sixth, seventh and eighth innings to come back for the win. Porterville rode the relief pitching of Tyler Czech to the win. Czech pitched five shutout innings, allowing two hits to pick up the win.

Christian Hamett went 2-for-5 with an RBI, Bryce Telfer was 2-for-5, Andrew Lopez, James Lopez and Zach Johnson all had a hit, James Bingaman had two RBI and Mitchell Villarreal added an RBI for PC.

James Lopez had PC’s only two hits and drove in the Pirates’ run against Bakersfield. No details were available on Sunday’s game against Hancock.
