Three people were taken to an area hospital Tuesday afternoon after the pickup truck they were in crashed into a palm tree.

The incident happened at about 4 p.m. near the Palm Tree Inn on Morton Avenue, just east of North Porter Road. The pickup truck, a four-door Ford F-150, was traveling west on Morton Avenue and ran directly into the palm tree. There was major damage to the front of the vehicle.

Initial police scanner reports indicated the driver of the pickup was not moving upon impact.

Paramedics, fire personnel, and several police officers responded to the incident.

The driver was the last person to be pulled out of the truck, placed on a stretcher, and rolled into an ambulance.

As of Tuesday evening, the identities of those involved and how or why the truck collided with the palm tree was unknown.
