PC volleyball wins thriller at Taft

Porterville College went into a hostile environment against a tough home crowd and Taft team to pick up a key road win the Central Valley Conference, winning 16-25, 25-23, 20-25, 25-21, 15-13. PC is ranked No. 7 in Northern California and No. 17 in the state while Taft is ranked No. 9 in the North and No. 24 in the state. Portervllle improved to 10-4 and 3-0 in the CVC.
Game five was close throughout. “It was point-for-point in game five,” PC coach Dale

Henderson said. But PC ended up having to overcome a 9-7 deficit to tie the score 12-12 and eventually took a 14-12 lead. After Taft closed to within 14-13, Nayeli Colunga hit an off speed kill for match point.

For PC, Amanda Monge had 34 kills, five digs and one block, Nayeli Colunga had 13 kills, seven digs, one block and one ace, Allison Clem had 12 kills, three digs and four blocks, setter Sam Sawyer had a huge match with 61 assists, three kills and one dig and Danielle Carrillo added six kills, three digs and one block.

“It was a very tough match,” Henderson said. “It was exciting. It was a dog fight. The girls really tightened up and came together and pulled it out.”
