Vote no on Prop. 32; yes on 30
Editor,
Public employees should be supported as they bring a lot of tax dollars back to the local economy through their tax supported salaries and healthcare benefits. Think about all the tax supported jobs around here.
Local voters would be wise to vote “no” on 32 and “yes” on 30 if they want to keep the local economy viable by supporting public employees.
Public employees have been losing financial ground for years now just like many other middle- and lower-class families. More cuts to public sector employees will be felt directly by local businesses as luxuries like eating out, gym membership, chiropractic care, going to the doctor, movie viewing, pets, etc. are cut out when thousands of local salaries and benefits get cut even further.
The only “trickle down” that we really get around here comes from tax revenue in the form of public employees’ salaries being earned and spent here. I buy local as much as I can and I let business owners know that I’m a teacher bringing tax dollars back to them.
Please think about how our local economy will really be effected before you vote and vote accordingly.
