Walter LeRoy Standifer

Walter LeRoy Standifer passed away at his home, Monday March 3, 2008. He was 75.

He was born in Holtville, California on June 22, 1932. Best Known as LeRoy, he served in the United States Navy and is a veteran of the Korean War, serving on the destroyer escort, USS Duncan 874.

He was a member of the Elks Lodge #1342 and the American Legion #779. He held a black belt in karate, loved to dance and listen to Chinese music.

He worked as a machinist at Standard Register for 22 years and at Joe Cobb Auto Parts for 10 years.

A valley resident, he graduated from Terra Bella Elementary School and Porterville High School.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 57 years, Betty Standifer; his two loving children, Joylynn Nix of Porterville and Arthur Standifer of Pismo Beach; his four adoring grandchildren, Cindy Nix of Escondido, Aaron Standifer-Powell of Bakersfield, Ryan Nix of Porterville, David Batcher of Camp Pendleton and his great- grandchild Tyler Powell of Bakersfield; one sister Vera Bray of Cloverdale and brother Ronnie Standifer of Cloverdale.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Ollene Standifer; and two sisters Billie Standifer and Jane Standifer.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 6th from 2:00 - 7:00 p.m. at Myers Chapel. A graveside service will be held on Friday March 7th at 11:00 a.m. at Vandalia Cemetery in Porterville.
