PC baseball beats Solano

BASEBALL
PC 7, SOLANO 5
After being routed by perennial state title contender Sierra 15-3 on Thursday, Porterville College came back to beat Solano on Friday at the Reedley Tournament.

Jacob Colby was the winning pitcher in relief, pitching three shutout innings before running into trouble in the ninth inning. Colby came out of the game with the bases loaded and no outs and Rick Roeder relieved to pick up the save.

Roeder induced a double play as a run scored to make it 7-5 and then got a popup to end the game. “He’s got a good breaking ball,” PC coach Jake Kiser said. “We thought that it would be a good matchup.”

Starting pitcher Brandon Roberts allowed four runs in four innings, striking out five. PC (3-6) overcame a 4-2 deficit for the win. Dominic Chaves went 2-for-4 with two doubles and three runs, Jordan Porras was 3-for-4 with two RBI and two runs and Cody Campo was 2-for-4 with an RBI for Porterville.

“I think it’s a good win,” Kiser said. “I think we still made too many mistakes. We still need to play better baseball.”

Against Sierra, Dean Burkett was 3-for-4 with a double, Dylan Watson was 1-for-1 and Chavez was 1-for-3 with two RBI for the Pirates.

PC will conclude play in the tournament at 3 p.m. today against Reedley.
