Smart meters

Editor,
I recently read the article where SCE is going to install a smart meter tower to be done out by the airport, so they can install smart meters here in Porterville, so the residents can get so-called accurate readings.

Let me tell you that Fresno and Bakersfield had nothing but trouble with smart meters and took them out. Why wasn’t the citizens of  Porterville told of this action that the City Council recently approved in a closed door session. Yes we can opt out of the smart meters. I for one will do so, but you really should have asked the citizens of  Porterville if they wanted smart meters to begin with.

This also will place a person on the unemployment list as SCE says they will no longer need meter readers. Well, I say that is really sad that no one was told of this matter until the City Council approved the measure without any comments taken at City Hall.

That’s because no one was told of this measure to be taken by SCE. This will also cause the bills to triple as it did in Modesto. So Porterville, if you want your electric bill to go up go ahead and sit back do nothing and let them install these so-called smart meters.

(Editor’s note: The city council had no say in the decision by SCE to install smart meters. That is purely up to the utility company.)
