Helped us soar

Editor,
I would like to send out a big thank you to my church family and the community of Porterville. On July 1 we were told by our church council we did not have enough funds to send our Youth Group to camp.

I was appointed a difficult task trying to raise enough money for 13 youth to get to camp in a three weeks. With God’s Grace, a lot of help from Juanita Craig, awesome support of concerned parents, diligence of our kids and overwhelming support from our church members and community, it was accomplished.

There were so many people who made this happen, so forgive me if I have overlooked anyone.

Thank you to J & R Meat for providing the meat for our drive-thru, Save-Mart for the rolls, Leslie Newsom for the beans, Shana Fischer for the coleslaw, Kay Easly for sharing her awesome recipe, Todd, Jennifer and the entire Bogle family who served the dinners and ran out several times to replace food items, Alex Larson with the Porterville Recorder for advertising our car wash, Maria at the City of Porterville who helped me get the permit and paperwork for the car wash, the Rebecca Circle that paid for two of our counselors, the Berean Sunday School class that paid for our other counselor, my husband Tom and his friend Brad Laefin who cooked the meat, Millinch Body that donated the Oak wood, John Pasquietz who loaned us the large BBQ, meat slicer and utensils, Genean our secretary, who got the information in bulletins, and Sue Arnold for donating a bike for the raffle.

Thank you to all who purchased tickets or brought your vehicle to get washed. Thank you to the Patterson family, Hal and Bonnie Gunning, Hubert and Juanita Craig, Sonny and Lana Sanders, Grampa Walleen, Doug and Linda Grant.

I came across this inspirational quote: “Together We Soar. Geese instinctively know they go farther and faster by flying in a V formation. Each bird’s flapping wings create an updraft to ease the way for the birds behind them. And, as the lead bird tires, another takes its place.

Cooperation helps them cover 70% more miles in the same time as one bird alone; their journey together a triumph of teamwork.”

Thank you for helping us soar.
