Spartans earn top seed

Pool play in the marathon that is the Strathmore Tournament is complete and the host school earned the No. 1 seed for Saturday’s elimination rounds.

Strathmore (8-1) downed Farmersville 25-14, 25-15 then split with Saturday’s No. 2 seed, McFarland, 18-25, 25-23 to push its record to 13-1 (games) in tourney play.

The Spartans will take on Laton in the 1-8 matchup at 9 a.m., at Strathmore High School.

Granite Hills lost 2-0 (25-20, 25-19) to Saturday No. 3 seed Kings Christian, but swept Lindsay (25-15, 25-19). The Grizzlies (8-6 in tourney games) are the No. 4 seed and take on Riverdale at 8 a.m., at Strathmore.

The Cardinals earned the sixth seed and will play Kings Christian at Harmony Magnet Academy at 8 a.m., Saturday.

Freshman Kennedy Blue had five kills and three blocks with older sister Lindsay Blue tallying four kills and three blocks. Libero Alexis Arguelles recorded 22 digs while Hayley Kendig racked up seven assists in the Cards’ 25-18, 25-23 loss to Riverdale.

All winners’ bracket games are at Strathmore with the losers’ bracket at Harmony.
