PC softball sweeps Barstow

PC 11-10, BARSTOW 5-2
Porterville College swept a doubleheader against Barstow, winning the opener 11-5 and the nightcap 10-2. In the opener, Bethany Threlkeld hit a three-run home run in the third inning to tie the score 3-3. Offensively for PC, Threlkeld, Ashley Keener and Jessica Heffley all had two hits and two runs, Maria West went 2-for-2 with a triple and two runs, Erin Keener doubled and Kyndal McAnulty, Justine Rhines and Shaycie Atene all added a hit.
Rhines settled down after allowing three runs in the first to pitch a complete game for the win, allowing just two unearned runs the rest of the way while striking out seven.
In the nightcap, West hit a two-run homer to give PC a 4-0 lead during a four-run third that gave Porterville a 6-0 lead. Heffley went 3-for-3 with two runs, Erin Keener and McAnulty each doubled, Threlkeld had two hits and Danyela Salas and Ashley Keener each added a hit.
Chelsie Childs pitched a complete game for the win, allowing two unearned runs on three hits.
PC coach Vickie Dugan said her team improved at the plate. “Much better hitting,” Dugan said. “Much better discipline at the plate. That’s what we were lacking, discipline at the plate.”
