Pay the fine
Editor,
I found Mr. Rick Elkins’ article interesting, but one fact was left out; the fact that Porterville and the US is becoming a lawless society, and this trend is being championed by America’s elected politicians (AKA the government).
If society is influenced and measured by its leaders, then seeing Senators and Congressman excluding themselves from the laws of illegal insider trading in the stock market to get rich, and Presidents using tricks to avoid constitutional checks and balances to pass laws are now America’s standards.
Now you know why: we see drivers in Porterville run red lights as they approach intersections because they don’t want to stop; we see people run stop signs and force other drivers to wait for them or suffer the accident; we see kids walking down the middle of streets forcing drivers to go around them and laugh because they take this power (some day a drunk driver won’t care). And finally, we see people doing 50 and 55 down West Putnam, between Plano and Hill Crest, when it’s posted 30 mph.
In this new society these prices are warranted because society has changed in America. If you can’t pay the fine, don’t do the crime.
