‘The Living Matrix’ film to be shown at Sunday service
The Porterville Center for Spiritual Living will be showing on a short film during the service on Sunday, Feb. 5. The film is entitled “The Living Matrix” and deals with how quantum physics, energy fields and consciousness directly affect our health and well-being.
The Center is located at 76 W. Harrison Ave. Service begins at 10:30 a.m.

‘Entourage Effect’ service at First United Methodist
Pastor Les Lungren’s revelation for the worship service on Sunday is “Entourage Effect” at First United Methodist Church, 344 E. Morton Ave.
The hymn sing will start at 11 a.m. and the worship service starts at 11:15 a.m. in the church sanctuary. Children attend the service with their families and are excused to their Sunday School classes following the Children’s Moment. Coffee hour follows the service and all are welcome.
Tuesday evenings at 6 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall is Pickleball with Deane and Linda Rhoadarmer. Whether you are familiar with this game or not, bring your energy and join the group for a fun time.
The annual Valentine Dinner will be held in the Fellowship Hall following the worship service on Sunday, Feb. 12. Those planning to attend should notify the church office by Wednesday, Feb. 8. This annual event is hosted and prepare by Pam Loverin in loving memory of her son, Chad Zermino and her Aunt, Opal Johns.

Free concert Seventh-Day Adventist
Calvin Taylor, pianist and recording artist, will appear in a free concert of sacred music at 10:45 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 4, at the Porterville Seventh-day Adventist Church the church is located at the corner of Highway 65 and Linda Vista Avenue.
Taylor has toured throughout the world, performing in North and South America, Europe, Ukraine, and the Far East. Holding degrees in music from Oberlin Conservatory, the University of Michigan, and the University of Kentucky, Taylor has authored several music books. With 10 solo recordings to his credit, Taylor records for Master Disc Records. Movements from his Sunrise Symphony have been performed by several orchestras including Nashville, Shreveport, South Arkansas, and Detroit Symphony Orchestras.

Celebrate Recovery Barbeque Tuesday
A Celebrate Recovery Barbeque will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 7 at the Westfield Christian Church. The cost to attend is $3.50. The regular weekly Celebrate Recovery meeting will follow the barbecue at 6:30 p.m.
Celebrate Recovery is a Christ-centered 12-step program and is open to anyone who struggles with any kind of hurt, habit or hang-up. Large group meetings are share groups, which meet from 6:30 to 9 p.m. every Tuesday.
A children’s program, Celebration Station is also available at the same time for children of parents who are involved.

Women’s Bible Study on Tuesdays
Women of the community are invited to join the Women’s Bible Study on Tuesday mornings from 10 a.m. to noon at the First Baptist Church of Porterville, 101 N. G St. The group is studying the Old Testament books of the Bible, emphasizing the struggles of the Hebrew people to remain obedient and faithful to God while settling the promised land of Canaan.
The study will include the historical development of the nation of Israel through recurrent falling away from God, judges and rulers, prophets, and the lessons to be learned for application in modern-day society. Bibles are available for those attending who do not have a bible. Teacher-led study and discussion is from l0 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., followed by fellowship and coffee.

Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper
St. James Anglican Church will hold its annual Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper from 5 to 7 p.m. on Feb. 21 at the Lindsay Memorial Building. Cost is $6 for adults and $5 for children under 8 years.

‘Is love a psychic phenomenon?’ at Unitarian service
The Unitarian-Universalist Fellowship of Porterville, will meet at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday. The church is located at Fourth Street and Harrison Avenue.
“Is love a psychic phenomenon?” Radha & Donald will show video interviews with Dr. Dean Radin, Ph.D. and Masaru Emoto in which they talk about their experiments that show the possibility of the mind-matter connection i.e. psychic phenomena. Discussion will follow.
