Eldon Potts to perform Feb. 18

Eldon Potts, a country gospel singer, from Joplin, Mo., will be appearing at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 18 at  Lindsay Christian Church, 120 E. Frazier St., Lindsay.

Eldon sings a unique style of country gospel which appeals to all ages. He has traveled extensively in the United States, in addition to much involvement on the mission field in various countries around the world. Not only does he present a unique sound in gospel music, he is also a preacher of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, graduating from Ozark Bible College in 1977. Eldon has produced 15 recordings. There is no admission charge and everyone of all ages is welcome to attend.

Seventh-day Adventist offering Heartbeat program

The Porterville Seventh-day Adventist Church is once again offering its Heartbeat program as a service to the community. Blood drawings are scheduled as follows: from 7 to 9 a.m. Monday, Feb. 13 at the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Porterville; from 7:30 to 9 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 14, at the Porterville City Library; and from 7 to 9 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 15 at the Sequoia Dawn Martin Building in Springville.

This cardiovascular evaluation includes blood glucose, serum cholesterol, high density lipoproteins (HDLs), low density lipoproteins (LDLs), triglycerides and uric acid. Total cost will be $27 (seniors, $25). PSA testing will be available for an additional fee. Those taking the test should not eat anything for 12 hours before having blood drawn; however, water and medications may be taken.

At 7 p.m. on Thursday, Mar.1, Dr. John Scharffenberg will review assessment results in his presentation on “Reducing Cancer Risk.” Health education materials may be picked up at that time, along with individual test results.

The church is located at the corner of Highway 65 and Linda Vista Avenue.

‘SHINE’ coming March 9 and 10

The second annual women’s event, “SHINE”, will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday, Mar. 9 and from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Mar. 10 at  the Porterville Church of the Nazarene. This community-wide event is for women of all ages and features Lysa TerKeurst, NY Times best-selling author and inspirational speaker, and singer/songwriter Monica Stahl. Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper

St. James Anglican Church will hold its annual Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper from 5 to 7 p.m. on Feb. 21 at the Lindsay Memorial Building. Cost is $6 for adults and $5 for children younger than 8 years old.

‘Spontaneity, the Universe and a Story’ at Unitarian

The Unitarian-Universalist Fellowship of Porterville, will meet at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday. The church is located at Fourth Street and Harrison Avenue.

Buzz Piersol will discuss the physical and chemical concepts of entropy, spontaneity and equilibrium which govern our vast universe. Following that, there will be a reading of a short story about a microcosm of the universe that examines ultimate fate. Discussion will follow on parallels of the story to the observable universe and human existence.
