Albert "Duane" Duncan

THE PORTERVILLE RECORDER

Duane Duncan was born May 25, 1943 in Richmond California to Dallas and Minnie Duncan. After a long battle of cancer he passed away on November 30, 2009 in Porterville, California.


When Duane was nine years old his father passed away and his mother brought her family from the bay area to live in Porterville, where his grandparents lived. He went to Porterville schools. He received an AA from the Porterville College. Duane was working for the Terra Bella Irrigation when he joined the Marines. Sergeant Duncan was a radio operator in Vietnam in 1966 and 1967. He served his country with honor under combat conditions.  He did some farming, planted his own olive orchard in Terra Bella. He became a real estate broker and had Duncan Realty until 1980 in Porterville. He got his pilot license at the Porterville Airport. Duane went to work at Friant Dam as a hydrologic technician in 1981 for the Bureau of Reclamation. He retired in 1999 from the government. He received many awards and certificates for his service to the government. He lived in Fresno, CA for 17 years after retiring. He moved back to Terra Bella area in 2003.


He loved fishing; hunting, flying and especially loved his dog and cats.  He always had a project going to make things nicer around his home and kept things very neat around his home by doing lots of tractor and cement work. He always excelled in whatever he took on. He was a devoted husband, brother and uncle and will be greatly missed.


Duane is preceded in death by his father Dallas Odell Duncan, mother Minnie Agnes Duncan, 2 brothers; Troy Duncan and Jerry Duncan, sister Norma Bargas, 1 niece, and 1 nephew.


He is survived by his wife of 23 years Barbara, 2 stepsons; Dennis Hicks of Parlier, CA and Richard Hicks of Selma CA. 3 step grandchildren, 3 step great grandchildren, 2 brothers; Tommy Duncan of Porterville and Ronnie Duncan of Visalia. 6 nephews and 3 nieces.


Visitation will be on Wednesday December 2, 2009 from 2pm-7pm at Whitehurst-Peters-Loyd Chapel.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday December 3, 2009 at 10am at Porterville Cemetery, Hillcrest section.
