Porterville homicide suspect arrested

THE PORTERVILLE RECORDER

On Wednesday, police arrested the man they say fatally shot 20-year-old Porterville resident Samuel Guzman one year ago.

Jose Anguiano, 19, was found near the Western coast of Mexico by the U.S. Marshals Service.

Anguiano was turned over to the Porterville Police Department at about 10:15 p.m. Wednesday night. He was subsequently booked him into the Tulare County Main Jail on a “No Bail” warrant on suspicion of murder.

Anguiano, a Porterville resident, had evaded authorities since the shooting occurred Oct. 3 in the 1000 block of W. Grand Ave., when gang slurs were reportedly yelled outside of a party.

“It’s nice to know ... we were able to apprehend him eventually,” Sergeant Dominic Barteau said.

Guzman was reportedly shot once with an unknown type of firearm. He was taken by ambulance to Sierra View District Hospital where he died as a result of his injuries.

A month long investigation after the shooting led authorities to Anguiano, who they identified as a member of Campo Locos criminal street gang.

Investigators believe the killing was gang-motivated, police report.

Barteau would not comment on any details of the police department’s investigation.

Hundreds of investigative leads led authorities to Colima Mexico where they apprehended their suspect.
