PC volleyball takes second at Modesto
Porterville College finished second at the Modesto Invitational on Friday, losing to a formidable L.A. Pierce team 25-12, 25-14, and 25-21.
Pierce is the two-time defending state volleyball champions. PC was led on offense by Amanda Monge’s 10 kills, Allison Clem’s six kills and Nayeli Colunga’s four kills. Setter Samantha Sawyer had 19 assists.
The same four players led the Pirates (4-1) throughout the tournament as PC defeated College of the Siskiyous 25-8, 25-6 and 25-22 and Modesto 25-13, 25-20 and 25-12 on the way to the final — Monge had 12 and 11 kills, Colunga added 12 and 10 kills, and Clem had six and 10 kills, and Sawyer had 25 and 27 assists, respectively.
“We thought we could compete with the defending state champions but they still have a little more than we do right now,” Pirates coach Dale Henderson said. “We will keep getting better.”
