Politics... and strange bedfellows

Editor,
There is an old adage that says, “politics makes strange bedfellows.” Never has that been more true in the history of Porterville.

You know you must be doing something right when your two biggest detractors are:
1.) The Liberal Wannabe Political “Organizer”, who admits to being anti-traditional marriage / pro-gun control / anti-Super Walmart / pro-big union...and who recently posted online, “Porterville is now called METHVILLE” Actually it is PedoVille. . . . . .even youth pastors molest young girls here. And,

2.) The former “Status Quo...Good Ol’ Boy Appointed Councilman,” who apparently after spending 12 years on council, somehow couldn’t quite grasp the ethical and legal implications of voting to give a private organization $35,000 of taxpayers’ money...while conveniently neglecting to mention that his business secretly benefited from a long-term “service contract” with them.

Unfortunately for them though, the most that these two fine gentlemen can come up with to try and “make hay” about is that I helped my “technologically challenged” neighbor buy some property at a Tulare County tax auction...and then supported him when he felt he was getting a “raw deal” from his government, when they decided to try and take it back.

Come on guys...is that the best you got? Well ya got me. Yep, I did it.  But sorry, I won’t apologize for something my Mom taught me to do. She always said, “you help your friends, and then stand up for them when you feel that they are being wronged”...regardless of whether it’s by another individual, or Tulare County.

But something good did actually come from all of this, I was finally able to bring these two rather diverse political factions together for a common cause.

So ultimately, I guess it’s just like what Winston Churchill said, “You have enemies? Good.

That means you’ve stood up for something, sometime in your life.”
