Naoma Faye O'Dell
On January 12, 2010 at 12:15 pm our mother, Naoma Faye O'Dell passed away with her daughters Trish and Linda by her side. Naoma joined our Lord Jesus Christ along with her husband Richard O'Dell, son Jerry Hyder and other family members who were waiting in heaven for her.
Naoma Fay O'Dell age 83 was a longtime resident of Porterville and Terra Bella. Naoma was born to William and Susie York on November 17, 1926 at Corning, AR and moved to Porterville in 1941. She attended Porterville schools and soon met Cecil T. Hyder whom she married August 25, 1942 in Modesto. They made their home in Porterville and were together until 1962. Naoma later married Richard O'Dell on June 30, 1964 and lived in Porterville and Ardmore, OK before retiring to Terra Bella in 1991. Naoma loved to sew and made many of her children's clothes as they were growing up. She loved dining out with friends and family, visiting casinos, playing cards, traveling, bingo, the beach and her special trips with the "girls" to Hawaii in 1997 and her cruise to Mexico in 2005. Her grandchildren will always remember her biscuits and chocolate gravy, her potato candy and all the fun times they had together. Naoma was a member of the Terra Bella Nazarene Church and loved her church family.
She was preceded in death by her son Jerry Hyder in 1986, her previous husband Cecil Hyder in 1990 and husband Richard O'Dell in 2008.
Surviving family includes 2 sons; Cliff Hyder and wife Jan of Springville and Troy Hyder and wife Linda of Terra Bella. 2 daughters; Trish Barbarick and husband Ron of Terra Bella and Linda Carroll and husband Reesel of Modesto. Sister-in-law Faye Esmon of San Luis Obispo along with 15 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren and 2 great, great grandchildren.
Visitation will be 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm Sunday, January 17, 2010 and 2:00 pm to 7:00 pm Monday, January 18, 2010 followed by a 10:00 am funeral service Tuesday, January 19, 2010 at Terra Bella Nazarene Church and interment at Porterville Hillcrest Cemetery.
