PC volleyball sweeps Merced

PC 3, MERCED 0
After his team’s loss to Fresno on Friday, Porterville College coach made a couple of changes to his lineup and the Pirates (13-5, 7-1 in the Central Valley Conference) responded by beating Merced 25-16, 25-15, 25-18. Lennea Fraser moved into the lineup at middle blocker and Allison Clem was moved from the middle to the outside to take advantage of her hitting.

“Lennea stepped up in the middle and did a good job,” Henderson said. About Clem, Henderson said, “she accepted the test also.”

PC trailed 13-9 in game one before coming back for the win and Amanda Monge’s serving helped the Pirates jump out to a 10-1 lead in game two. PC led 18-13 in game three before Merced closed to within 18-17, but Porterville finished the match with a 7-1 run, winning on Clem’s quick hit off a set from Sam Sawyer on match point.

Monge had 19 kills, six digs, two blocks and three aces, Nayeli Colunga continued her string of double doubles in kills and digs with 11 kills, 10 digs, two blocks and two aces, Allison Clem had eight kills, seven digs, one block and two aces, Sawyer had 37 assists, three digs and one ace and Kacey Markarian added eight digs and two aces for PC.
