Luau on tap for community counseling center

Tickets are now on sale for a Hawaiian Luau to be held at 6:30 p.m. July 28 at Nuckol’s Ranch, 13144 Road 216.

The event is to raise funds for the ongoing support of a local counseling center — Walk With Me Family Services.

The center offers low-cost counseling and psychotherapy services, including treatment for depression, anxiety, sexual assault issues, child abuse, domestic violence and other issues — in Porterville and the surrounding areas. It is open to anyone in the community and has a sliding fee scale.

Dr. Rebecca Gervasi will provide counseling and therapy services to families, couples, children and individuals.

Gervasi said she came up with the idea of establishing a local faith-based therapeutic center while working as a volunteer with five local service agencies, and was inspired by a faith-based film on marriage and family therapy her husband brought home from church. She knew she had found a way to help her community, and serve God, by providing the therapeutic services, said Gervasi, a recent recipient of an award from the Tulare County District Attorneys Office for her support of victims of crime.

Tickets for the fundraising event are $25 per person and available at each mass on June 10 at Holy Cross Church, 1765 N. Newcomb St., or by calling Dr. Richard Fightlin at 782-1807, Healing Arts Academy at 789-9633 or Gervasi at 789-9314.
