Kohl’s Department Stores, through its Kohl’s Cares Scholarship Program, is honoring more than 2,300 youth, ages 6 to 18, nationwide who have made a positive impact on their community, with more than $425,000 in scholarships and prizes.

Ranging from $50 Kohl’s gift cards to $10,000 scholarships, more than 2,300 young volunteers who have made a positive impact on their communities will be selected.

Nominations for children, ages 6 to 18, will be accepted through March 15 at kohlskids.com.

All nominators must be 21 years of age or older.

Two nominees from each of the more than 1,100 Kohl’s stores nationwide, including two from Porterville, will win a $50 Kohl’s gift card.

More than 200 nominees will win regional scholarships worth $1,000 toward postsecondary education. Ten national winners will be awarded a $10,000 scholarship for post-secondary education. In addition, Kohl’s will also donate $1,000 to a nonprofit organization on each national winner’s behalf.

Visit kohlskids.com to nominate volunteers, ages 6 to 18, for a Kohl’s Cares scholarship.

Since its inception in 2001, Kohl’s Cares Scholarship Program has recognized more than 17,000 children with more than $3.4 million in scholarships in prizes.

In 2012, one national winner was honored for collecting, decorating and delivering food baskets to more than 400 families in her community. She also collected and provided hats and gloves to 320 local school children. Another regional winner was recognized for collecting and donating more than 100,000 books to children in homeless shelters in 35 states and to underprivileged children in the Dominican Republic and Jamaica.

The Kohl’s Cares program is sponsored by the store’s special book and plush toy merchandise program — with 100 percent of the net project benefitting children’s initiatives, fundraising gift cards for schools and youth serving organizations.
