Joe Oliver

Joe Oliver, 68 of Porterville, CA passed away on January 4, 2010. He passed peacefully at home, surrounded by family. Joe was a former resident of Mariposa, Oakhurst and Raymond, CA.


Joe was born to Ben and Andy Oliver in Byars, OK on May 18, 1941. Joe joined the United States Marine Corps in 1957 where he advanced to the rank of corporal. During the Vietnam War Joe served at Twenty Nine Palms, CA, Hawaii and Okinawa. CPL Oliver was medically retired in December 1965.


Joe was a lifelong member of the Disabled American Veterans and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a member of the Oakhurst Elks Lodge and E. Clampus Vitus. Joe worked at the Day-N-Nite Market in Oakhurst for several years and cooked on the trails of Yosemite National Park.


Joe loved to watch movies and spend time with his family. Joe was preceded in death by his parents; brothers; Hershal, Pete and James Oliver; sisters; Johnie Clay, Ruby James, Willie Belle Tenpenny and Brownie Bea Mc Abee.
He is survived by his daughter; Kara Oliver and fiancé C. Ward Ellis of Porterville; 5 grandchildren; Jessica, Sean, Kimberly, Carol, Michael and 9 great grandchildren; Destiny, Natasha, Megan, Amber, Samantha, Diana, Michael, Isaak and Brandon. He is also survived by brothers; Loyd Oliver of Fresno, David Pendergrass of OK, Mark Oliver of Manteca, Andy Oliver of Madera and sisters; Bessie Worth of Coalinga and Linda Crippen of Raymond.


Private family services to be held at a later date. Interment is to be private.

Myers Funeral Services and Crematory, Porterville, CA is in charge of arrangements.
