Society should be protected from stupidity
Editor,
Here we go again, and just let me say I was sickened to see that you wasted ink on such hate and ignorance again even though the First Amendment is for all and that’s what makes America great, I was still totally sickened by Mr. Sam Usher’s Aug. 26 letter to this very paper.
I think he forgets that we live by secular law and government and homosexuality has always been around in all societies.
I’m a lesbian, and when I read things like this from Mr. Usher, I can tell he is a sad man that has been fed fear and hatred all of his life.
Gay and lesbians have families. They work. They pay taxes. We eat, we love and we have faith, faith that one day we will live as one in full equality under the law.
We also have faith that as we progress people will stop with the propaganda and the outdated books that were based on fear and the untruth of those times.
We still have some people that grew up in a time of constant fear.
The John Birch Society, which was started by Robert Welch in 1958, was based all on fear that anything they didn’t like was based on communism. Well it’s 2010, it’s time to get out of the bunker, the lead paint has made some people go mad.
The John Birch Society was also against the Earl Warrren decision (Brown v. Board, 1954) and also thought the communists wanted to do floridation to the drinking water for mind control and the John Birch Society also called the 1960 civil rights movement “the negro soviet repubilc movement.” It’s not 1950 anymore.
