Justine Rhines earned the win on the mound for PC but was tagged with the loss against Hartnell.
Trailing 5-2, Jessica Heffley gave PC a 6-5 lead with a grand slam in the top of the fourth inning. She went 2-for-5.
Ashley Keener was 3-for-3 and Erin Keener was 2-for-3 with two RBI for PC. Maria West and Rhines each had two hits. Bethany Threlkeld had an RBI and a hit and Danyel Salas also had a hit.
Chelsey Childs took the loss in game two against Cuesta as the PC bats went cold.
Porterville had a tough time producing hits against Hartnell as only Heffley, Ashley Keener and Threlkeld managed hits.
The Pirates were without their No. 1 pitcher, Lexi Guild due to a back injury. Guild is expected to miss significant time and could be lost for the season, PC coach Vicki Dugan said. The team will know more after Guild undergoes testing early this week.
