Grizzlies obliterate Delano All-Stars, 21-0
The Granite Hills summer-league baseball team did not show much mercy on the Delano All-Stars, Wednesday night.
Granite, aided by a 10-run first inning, pounded the club team 21-0, at home.
Soon-to-be sophomore Nomar Barraza pitched five scoreless innings for the Grizzlies (5-6), striking out eight batters and allowing just one hit.
At the plate, Luis Gonzalez drove in five teammates. Gonzalez pounded a three-run double and a two-RBI single.
Strathmore ace Gary Vail did work at the dish as well, belting a two-run double. Nelson Flores also notched a single in the lopsided battle.
Defensively, Granite, after committing several errors in its last outing — a 13-1 loss to the Bakersfield Blaze last Tuesday — left the third column empty, Wednesday night.
Recent graduate Tomas Valadez (shortstop), freshman Michael Cruz (second base) and Tony Parra (first base) teamed up on three double plays as well.
Granite will play three home games next week, as the Bakersfield Dodgers, Tehachapi and Lindsay come to town.
