PC softball ends 8-game skid

The Porterville College softball team won its first game of the season Saturday, ending an eight-game skid.

The Pirates downed Pasadena 14-6 in five innings (darkness) in game 2 of a double-header.

Rebecca Hurtado pitched three innings to earn the win. Sam Nalley came on in relief after pitching 10 innings in game 1’s 8-7 loss. Nalley struck out 12 on the day.

PC never trailed in game 2.

Kimber Fielding sent the opener to extra innings with a three-run home run. Fielding and Ashley Keener batted .400 in the DH, while Taylor Ball led the team by going 5-for-6.

On Friday, PC dropped and 8-3 decision to Sierra College in Fresno. The Pirates led the North’s fourth-ranked squad 3-1 heading into the bottom of the fifth. In the fifth, Sierra took the lead with five runs on five hits, including two home runs off Nalley, who finished with four strikeouts.

Isabel Cardenas (Porterville) was 2-for-3 at the plate, followed by Hurtado, Fielding, Ginessa Delange and Felicia Flavel each with one hit.

Porterville hosts Modesto in a double-header Saturday. First pitch at noon.
