Forrest "Doc" Mock
Comments 0 | Recommend 0Forrest “Doc” Mock, born, December 22, 1914, in Waitsburg, Washington, passed away Sunday morning, August 16, 2009, at the age of 94.
Doc spent 32 years with the Porterville Unified School District, first with Porterville High School and then at Monache when the school was first established. At Porterville High “DOC” coached championship B football and Varsity Basketball teams and later became head of the Physical Education Department. He would yell out, ”Line up for roll call!” and over the years thousands of students got on their number. Before sports “DOC” was a mechanical drawing and industrial arts instructor and for two years he was the attendance officer.
Between 1942 and 1946 1st Lieutenant Mock was part of the Army Air Corps in charge of the physical fitness program for the Midwestern states. A native of Waitsburg, Washington he received his B.A. at Washington State University and his M.A. at University of Southern California. Before teaching in Porterville he taught at Pateros, Washington High School and Omak High School in Omak, Washington.
Forrest “DOC” Mock is survived by his wife of 60 years, Pauline Mock, who he met in 1948 where they both taught at Porterville High School. They were married in 1949 He is survived by two sons, Michael and Patrick Mock and their spouses. He is survived by his grandchild Mary Brice, Deborah Bohman, Patrick Mock, and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be held Friday August 22, at 9:00 a.m at St. Anne's Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers memorial can be made in his name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital 501 St. Jude Place Memphis TN 38105.
