Forest needs our help
Editor,
When will we the people, our elected officials and the Forest Service stand up against the idiots at the Sierra Club and others of their ilk? The Sierra Club claims to have collected 300,000 signatures from other brain-dead people to let our forest alone. We should have 10 times that many. Tell them to “take a hike” in the forest, and see what neglect does.
Californians should understand this more than most. We see millions of acres of orchards that have been taken care of properly and what they produce. We have also seen those that have been neglected or allow to die without care. We prune and care for the trees and flowers on our own property. Just look at a home in foreclosure and see the difference without a responsible home owner to care for the house and surroundings.
The same goes for our forest. While the “environmentalist” want to “let nature have it’s way”, it will mean the destruction of our forest. Logging will give the Giant Sequoia the room to breath and expand while providing needed lumber for building. The removal of under brush will also be nurturing to the seedlings. It will also cut down on the fuel that will harm, or kill, the mature trees.
Everything needs to be taken care of and help the natural process of living. People go to the doctor to help themselves to be cured of disease and to get preventive care. Every living thing needs preventive care including our forest. If an environmentalist gets cancer or any other disease, do they just let nature take it’s course? I think not. Our forest is on life support and needs our help.
