Justice needed for Vincent Steen
Editor,
As I stated in an earlier letter re: the shooting of Vince Steen, at the end of the day the officers involved will be back at work and the shooting justified.
This has been the subject of a lot of conversation since January and most of us are in no way surprised at the outcome.
In most officer involved shootings, the outcome is the same, whether the citizens agree or not.
The article stated that Vince, his family and the offcers were in the home at the time and his family has declined to speak to anyone, so how do we know their story is correct?
We don’t and truth is, we won’t.
I was happy to see the family has retained an attorney he, as many of us, feel the officers were wrong in their actions that night.
I would like to say he is not alone in this. Shortly after the incident, many people wrote in regarding Vince and the shooting as well as te police department, so I know my opinion is not my own, but that of many.
I just hope the DA sees it for what it is and tells the police department they did go too far, but that seems unlikely at this point.
the only thing that we can hope for is some type of justice for Vince, someone to stand up and say this was wrong and we won’t accept this in Porterville anymore.
If this is the family’s attorney, great. The DA, well that is great too and it is the voice of the people who live here, so much the better.
To the family and friends of Vince, I would like to say my continued thoughts, support and prayers are with you.
If we can get this type of thing changed, perhaps Vince will not have died in vain and someone else’s mom won’t have to see their son shot down like a dog in his kitchen simply because he had no light on his bike.
