PC men and women fall

MEN’S BASKETBALL
MERCED 71, PC 60
Porterville College couldn’t overcome a 37-20 halftime deficit in the loss to Merced. Juddon Carter scored 12 points, Dominic Avila had 11 points, Robert Shackleford had seven points and Robert Amaro added six points for PC.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
COS 50, PC 40
Porterville College had a solid defensive effort at College of the Sequoias on Wednesday, but struggled to score as it trailed 13-5 with about five minutes left in the first half. PC (3-3 in the Central Valley Conference) trailed 22-17 at halftime and 44-40 when it could have conceivably tied the game, but missed a front end of a one-and-one and then missed a layup with about three minutes left.
“Any time you hold somebody to 50 points, you expect to be victorious 75 to 80 percent of the time,” PC coach Dave Kavern said.
Eva Gutierrez scored 17 points and Katrina Goulbourne added nine points for PC. Granite Hills graduate Emily Fechner scored 10 points for COS.
