Porterville College (2-4) frustrated Mt. San Antonio College, the state’s No. 1 team, with its zone defense, but couldn’t muster enough offense at the College of the Seqouias Tournament. PC went scoreless for the first eight minutes, but still trailed just 8-0 and 24-12 at halftime.
PC also hurt itself at the foul line in the second half, going just 8-for-20. Maribel Bravo and Destiny Zarate were the leading scorers for Porterville. “I was happy with the effort we had,” PC coach Dave Kavern said.
The Pirates continued play in the tournament at 4 p.m. today against Antelope Valley in the old gym at COS.
