Myron Attended Porterville Schools and graduated from Porterville High School, where he was known as ‘Mynie’.
Following four years in the Air Force during the Korean War, he became a California Highway Patrolman. His first five years with the CHP were spent in East Los Angeles and Baldwin Park and the next 25 years he spent patrolling the Porterville area - mostly in the Springville and mountain areas. He retired with a heart problem in 1988 and spent his remaining years doing some traveling and enjoying the home he loved.
During the first of his three times as Chairman of the Porterville Democratic Club, the Democratic Scholarship at Porterville College was founded.
Preceding Myron in death were his parents; his brother, Donald Giddings; grandson, Joel Chapman; a foster son, Edward Merjil and his dearly loved Irish Wolfhound, Murphy.
Surviving him is his wife of fifty-three years, Carolyn; daughters, Gayle Smith and her husband Glen, of Buckeye, AZ, and Kathleen Chapman of Porterville; sons, Myron Roy Giddings and his wife JoAnn of Aurora, CO, Kevin Giddings of Bakersfield and Kenneth Giddings of Mesquite, NV; several foster sons; his sisters, Betty Barnard of Santa Clara, CA and Phyllis Stephens and her husband Jerry of Lakewood, CO; brother, Douglas Giddings and his wife Marilyn of Riggins, ID; 16 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
Myron was a big man in more ways than just size...his sense of humor, his love for the greater Porterville area, the job that had fulfilled a childhood dream, and his sustaining love for his family and his high-school sweetheart, whom he married. He would tell anyone who asked that his was a ‘very good run’ and he had no regrets. He died at home under the care of Optimal Hospice with his wife at his side.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to: The Democratic Club Scholarship at Porterville College or Optimal Hospice.
Condolences may be sent to the family at www.myersfuneral.com.
