Straw man
Editor,
Greg Shelton’s comparison of the county with Las Vegas was cute, however, not completely factual. What the county and Vegas do have in common is not the dislike for winners, but the complete disdain for cheaters. Vegas has TV programs concerning cheaters and they, the cheaters, are not tolerated.
With the possible cheating, or at least the very unethical dealings, of council member Shelton and the county, it is not what was said, but what was purposefully left out of the letter to the editor. In real life, the cheaters, when caught, tend to blame everyone else for their mistakes. This case is no exception.
Unethical act No. 1:
A council member involved in the buying and selling of land within a redevelopment area, in fact, two pieces of property, is two cases of unethical behavior.
Unethical act No. 2:
Having a council member acting as, and with, a “straw man”, behind the scenes, for the purchase of property in the redevelopment area is unethical and is cheating.
Unethical act No. 3:
It looks like a conspiracy to try to get more money from the county than deserved — cheating.
The people that council member Shelton mentioned in his article have been in involved with him in other land dealings as well as other business dealings. Mr. Beardsley has been mentioned several times in forms that are required by law for council member Shelton to submit. Both schedules B and C are public records. This truly looks like a “good old boy” network that wants their own rules, for their own profits.
The Tulare County Board of Supervisors questioned where the legal money trail is; none can be provided. If there are victims here, all they have to do is file with the county and try to collect damages; I doubt this will ever happen because this has all the indications of being a scam.
Shame on you for even trying to draw a parallel between your actions and a rape victim! This was the ultimate insult to women. You are not a victim; you are an unethical cheater that got caught.
The city, county supervisors, county assessor and the tax collector do have something in common with Vegas, they dislike cheaters.
