Freedom Fest

I would like to acknowledge a spectacular Sesquicentennial event in 2011 that was not mentioned in a previous letter to the Editor in December. The most well attended, revenue generating 150th birthday party of the year-the Freedom Fest.

Special thanks to city councilmen Greg Shelton and Brian Ward, Tule River Tribe’s Kevin Bonds and Rhoda Hunter, the volunteers and all the city employees that went out of their way to make sure many were well fed, well entertained, cooled off and traffic smoothly controlled.

Special thanks to Porterville so many others far and away could watch the event on video that weren’t able to be there.

The fireworks show was the best I’ve ever seen and everyone enjoying themselves was fantastic. There was so much laughter and hundreds of happy faces. It was the best birthday party of the year amd looking forward to many Freedom Fests to come.
