THE PORTERVILLE RECORDER

Marion "Dorie" Wilson passed away in Porterville on October 19, 2009 at the age of 40.

Dorie was born September 5, 1969 in Bethesda, Maryland to Angel and Marilyn Zayas. Dorie has a wonderful family that she loved to spend time with.

She is survived by her husband Matthew, sons; Brian Whitley, Jonathan Whitley and Morgan Wilson, a daughter Alexandria Whitley, her mother Marilyn Zayas, sisters; Maria Carnes, Susan Blanchard and Erika Rowin, a brother Carlos Zayas, one grandchild Brooke Whitley, nephew Jordan Zayas and niece Eliana Carnes.

Dorie graduated with honors from Strathmore High School. She attended Porterville College to jump start her way to earning her teaching credential, which she earned from Fresno State University. On August 20, 1996 Dorie was hired as a 5th grade teacher at Alta Vista Elementary School in Porterville. Dorie made herself at home in everyday life at Alta Vista as an intermediate teacher. Along with teaching partner and close friend Pat Stanley, Dorie brought drug awareness and community service to students through the Eagles Club. Eventually, Dorie joined the Junior High team where she was given the opportunity to teach the subject she loved the most: History. She incorporated her love of reading, movies and dragons into her teaching of the subject. In her final year at Alta Vista, she joined the 2nd grade.

Dorie really impacted the lives of those around her. Dorie with her vibrant personality and colorful spirit, made everyone a part of her family. Though her time has come to an end, she has left her mark on our lives at home, school and in the community in so many ways. She will be greatly missed. Dorie, we love you.

Services will be held a Myers Chapel on Saturday, October 24, 2009 at 1:00 pm.

Interment to be private.
