Illegal abuses
Editor,
Staying interested in Porterville City Council decisions often makes me wonder, “what are you thinking?”. Kudos to the Recorder for the January 25th article that highlighted how the trio of Twiddle Dumb, Dumber and Dumbest continue their efforts to sabotage progressive, intelligent discussions.
They refuse to discuss the issue, then use their power to out-vote or close the meeting with the pounding of the gavel. Their selective outrage is at last being exposed in the local media.
Voters elect the City Council to four-year terms believing their financial interests will be protected and their concerns addressed. But in last few years the arrogance of power and appointed position of a portion of the Council have ruled in back room decisions and “under the table” deals. When other Councilmen won’t “belly up to the bar” the above “trio” react by attempting to discredit their proposals, make personal attacks, refuse discussion or agree to out-vote the issue.
Voters!! Come to the bi-monthly City Council meetings — listen and observe which councilmen come prepared with in-depth research of the issues, who have “crunched the numbers”, encourage public input and expect transparency in City Council decisions.
Compare those to the Councilmen who discourage open discussion, who’ve already made up their minds or have been lobbied by staff.
Hopefully, the upcoming election will realign the current council and bring fresh air into these offensive and oft-times borderline illegal abuses.
