Blasts Montana column

Editor,

In the most recent opinion column from Montie Montana Jr., he berates Newsweek for asking why Obama’s critics are so dumb, then he follows with a cow pie of falsehoods and distortions.

First, he gives an Internet link that takes up three lines. Now ignorance of bitly and tinyurl does not constitute stupidity, but it is a bit of a waste.

Then he claims that 957 South Carolinians “voted” while dead. This is completely false and is indicative only of the kind of idiots that run South Carolina and NewsMax http://tinyurl.com/84brlar.

The real story, of course, is that South Carolina officials are trying to make it harder for (live) U.S. citizens to vote.

Montana then goes on to claim that there are 41% more Food Stamp recipients since Obama took office. Ignoring for the moment that the program that people used to call Food Stamps has now been replaced by SNAP, we see that the average participation http://tinyurl.com/38jh2kg in SNAP is 44,709K for FY 2011; 33,490 for FY 2009; and 19,096 for FY2002. I make that as a 32% increase in years that correspond to Obama budgets and a 75% increase in years that correspond to the budgets of his predecessor. I wonder why Montana didn’t mention that.

It is this kind of writing that undermines his outrage at being called an idiot. So I won’t refer to him as one, but I would ask him why a steady stream of falsehoods and distortions makes its way into his columns. With all due deference to his delicate sensibilities, why does he mako so much puhli?
