PC baseball, softball fall to COS
COS 5, PC 1
Porterville College had eight hits, but could only score one run against College of the Sequoias. “We couldn’t get any big two-out hits,” PC coach Jake Kiser said.
Zach Johnson had three hits, including a double, for Porterville.
COS 6-7, PC 3-3
Chelsie Childs pitched a complete game in both games for Porterville College, but PC’s struggles on defense were the difference in both games against College of the Sequoias.
“Chelsie did a good job pitching,” PC coach Vickie Dugan said. “Chelsie was hitting her spots better.”
PC trailed 3-2 going into the bottom of the sixth inning in the opener before COS pulled away for the 6-3 win. Offensively for PC, Maria West had two doubles and an RBI, Bethany Threlkeld was 1-for-1, Danyela Salas was 1-for-3 with two RBI and Erin Keener was 1-for-3.
In the nightcap, Jessica Heffley was 3-for-4, Ashley Keener and Erin Keener each had a hit, Threlkeld was 1-for-2 with an RBI and Kyndal McAnulty went 1-for-3 with two RBI. West was also robbed of a two-run home run that would have pulled PC to within 7-5 in the seventh when COS made a leaping catch in left center field.
Ever since Taft romped in a doubleheader sweep against PC, Dugan said her team has continued to improve. “Since the Taft games on, they’ve been getting better,” she said. “They’ve been in every game.”
