PC to host Art With Impact Wednesday
Porterville College will host an Art With Impact event from 2:15 to 4:15 p.m. Wednesday in the Student Center Conference Room at Porterville College, 100 E. College Ave.
The event is sponsored by the Active Minds student club, whose focus is to reduce the stigma of mental health, suicide awareness and prevention, and serves as an opportunity for students to watch films about mental health, discuss them with their peers, and ask questions to a panel of experts.
The event concludes with snacks and time for one-on-one questions and answers. It is part of a series of events “Art With Impact” and the “Mental Health Oversight and Accountability Commission” that run throughout the state of California.
The program’s mission is to connect people to global issues through art and media and provide opportunities to share their voices, time and talent in meaningful ways, accomplished by making available some of the best short films on mental health issues and connecting the films with educational resources and concrete volunteer opportunities through in-person events on college campuses, organizers said.
