Respect

Editor,

Sometimes citizens don’t know if we should actually have respect toward our police department or show more respect to criminals, because at least criminals understand the meaning of respect.

After being granted authorization and permission from City Hall to give away free hot dogs, chips and a soda to the public in support of three candidates and upon informing them that we would have a display of banners and candidates’ signs running for City Council at the Veterans Park on a Saturday in May, the peaceful gathering was suddenly unprofessionally interrupted by a member of the Porterville Police Department.

The action of the police officer left no alternative but to file legal action against the agency for rights violations.

After complying with the officer’s orders, an officer later returned, saying that the signs would have to be taken completely out of the area or he would trash them.
