Editor,
I am writing in response to the gentleman that believes identifying drug users would end all problems with crime and careless drivers. The grocery list of items that he gives as a sure-fire way to spot them is interesting since I’ve seen many people, some law enforcement, doing those very things.
What he suggests is drug users are always easy to spot.
Yes, there are some behaviors that are common in those abusing drugs/alcohol, but not always. I would like to challenge him to find me, as I am a recovering addict with 15 years clean/sober, and yes occasionally my taillight is out and I don’t know it right away.
Although, I’m sure his intentions are good, they are fouled, he asks us to place a scarlet letter on those we find guilty. Instead might we educate ourselves about this disease and learn to talk honestly to one another, not watch suspiciously and in silence.
