PC men and women beat Reedley
MEN’S BASKETBALL
PC 80, REEDLEY 66
Porterville College picked up its second win of the season. Reedley led by nine points midway through the first half, but PC came back to tie the score 31-31 at halftime.
Porterville took its first double digit lead when Robert Amaro made a steal and a layup to give the Pirates a 56-45 lead with nine minutes left.
PC led by as many as 15 points in the second half. After Reedley closed to within 69-61 with 2:57 left, Joseph Yarbrough answered with a layup to give PC a 71-61 lead with 2:25 left and Reedley really never threatened after that.
Tyrone Hall scored 19 points, Elijah Henningham had 13 points and Amara added 14 points for PC, which ends the season on Saturday at Merced. “This is a good win for us,” PC coach T.J. Jennings said. “Now we hope to make a streak to build some momentum for next year.”
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
PC 73, REEDLEY 69
Destiny Zarate had a huge game from the floor, hitting 10-of-12 shots and seven threes on her way to scoring 28 points in leading PC to the win. PC coach Dave Kavern said his team did a good job in feeding Zarate the ball.
“The kids really played well,” Kavern said. “They recognized that Destiny was shooting the ball well.”
Porterville overcame a 64-60 deficit late for the. With point guard Alia Alvarez having to come out with an injury, post player Maribel Bravo took over at the point, with Kavern saying that was likely the first time Bravo played point guard since eight grade. But Kavern set up a play for Bravo, who converted a three-point play to give PC the lead in the last minute.
Also for PC, Katrina Goulbourne had 10 points and nine rebounds and Alvarez and Eva Gutierrez each scored 10 points.
