For American Bull Terriers
Editor,
I’m proud to be the owner of two loving, loyal, lazy and spoiled American Bull Terriers. There is no such breed called pit bull.
For those who have not heard, there are four breeds that have been given the name pit bull, (see www.dogbreedinfo.com/americanpitbull.htm). These beautiful animals, shouldn’t be given the mark of elimination for something they were trained to do. The same people who chose to train these dogs to fight are chiefly responsible for the banning and witch-hunting that has been sweeping the U.S. (see website above).
Cesar Millan uses these beautiful animals for rehabilitation means and proves that no matter what breed they can be suitable for family life. People associate a pit bull with negative, dangerous and deadly acts, most common being the vile sport of dog fighting. But, has anyone heard of what this amazing creature has done for good? Of course not, because no one wants there to be a good side to these amazing animals. Visit the webpage created by Diane Jessup (lawdogsusa.org). She has been rehabilitating these dogs and giving them to the Tucson PD to use instead of the animal normally associated with law officials, of which the officers were prejudiced at first, but now that they have these companions, they want no other.
If you feel that these beautiful family members need to be banned and eradicated from our country and city, then that’s your opinion. I have a young toddler, and get along wonderfully. As with any animal I will not leave them alone together. As long as you exert the leader mentality, these dogs are the best.
I have had many breeds, hands down, I will not own any other. I am not a gang-banger as previous submitter Kathleen Harris stated is the cause of these behavioral issues.
It’s not the breed’s fault they have a bad reputation, but in fact the people who trained them to be that way should be the ones to blame. Be responsible and get educated; these family members are awesome.
